Super Late Model racers will have at least 10,000 more reasons to be excited for the Peach State Classic at Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) on May 16-17.
Interest is already surging for racing’s return to the Jefferson, GA speedway for a good, old-fashioned family fun weekend; a weekend that is only a start of what’s to come.
Event officials announced Wednesday that the Super Late Model feature of the Peach State Classic, co-sanctioned by the Southern Super Series and the CARS Tour, will now pay, at minimum, $10,000 to win the event. This will provide Super Late Model racers a major payday to chase when they arrive at Gresham. The race will also pay $750 to start, offering strong pay throughout the field for the race.
Promoters Bob Dillner and Tim Bryant hope this, along with the opportunity to compete at the legendary Georgia venue for the first time in nearly six years, will draw scores of competitors.
“We want this show to be big and this is just a start in terms of publishing a minimum purse,” said Dillner. “A track is coming back to life, that’s special in itself, but we want a bunch of cars to come to Georgia, enjoy themselves and compete for a nice purse.
“We have intentions, pending sponsorship negotiations we are having right now, on adding to that purse to make it more lucrative. We are so excited about what the fans are going to be offered that weekend and it’s all due to the hard work and effort from our entire team.”
If you are interested in any aspect of the Peach State Classic, please contact Gresham Motorsports Park at info@racegmp.com. The track is looking for people to work the event, help prior to the event and anyone who may want to have a lucrative sponsorship or advertising package as part of the event.
The event marks the first race at the half-mile since the 2014 World Crown 300, won by Georgia native Casey Roderick. Now, drivers will be able to return to the venerable facility while competing for a healthy purse.
“While the very idea of getting GMP re-opened has stirred an amazing amount of interest, we know that in today’s Super Late Model environment, a decent payday is what the top teams are looking for,” said Bryant.
An open test for the event will take place on April 18, open to all divisions competing at an affordable rate of $200 per car. More details on other practice opportunities is coming soon.
The Wheel Man Racing Series Sportsman competitors and the Trucks will race on Saturday, May 16. The Modifieds of Mayhem and the Super Late Models will race on Sunday, May 17.
