Get Out the Broom: Stephen Nasse swept the weekend at Five Flags Speedway to post his 13th and 14th ASA Southern Super Series wins.  Nasse now has nine Blizzard Series wins, which is second all-time behind Bubba Pollard.  For his victory, Nasse won the $5,000 bonus awarded to a driver who could win both races.  Nasse pulled off the feat for the big $25,000 payday.  

Points Battle Heating Up: To say the points battle is tight would be an understatement.  After Spencer Davis finished second on Friday, he cut the point lead to one for Rookie Tristan McKee.  A night later McKee got the Georgia driver by one spot to increase the lead back to three. If these two stay that close down the stretch, it’s going to be a barn burner.  

Rookie Blues: Tristan McKee started the season off with a podium finish at the Clyde Hart Memorial in New Smyrna.  With a string of solid finishes, he built up a point lead that he was able to protect over the weekend, but the top 10s seem like they might not be enough for the Super Late Model rookie to be a champion.  He will have a few weeks off to regroup before Nashville.  Rookie champions are nothing new in the Southern Super Series as Gio Ruggiero did the same in 2023. 

Pollard The Pole King:  Bubba Pollard pocketed his 37th and 38th fast time awards for the ASA Southern Super Series at Five Flags.  Pollard has not won back-to-back pole awards since 2018 and not at Five Flags since 2017.  It’s not so much the qualifying as it was how the 26 looked in race trim; these were some of the best finishes Pollard has had in recent memory in the series.  

Super Sub: It’s always nice when you can put a former Blizzard Series winner and Southern Super Series champion in your car as a replacement. Hudson Bulgar was unavailable, so Brett Ragan brought Hunter Robbins out of semi-retirement to post a solid runner-up finish on Friday and a fifth-place run on Saturday.  Robbins' last start prior at Five Flags was in the 2024 Snowflake 100, in which he won. 

Unlikely Weekend:  Cole Butcher didn’t have a Cole Butcher-type weekend at Five Flags, but then again he hasn’t been in a Super Late Model much this season. Butcher won the ASA STARS National Title, the ASA Southern Super Series title, and the Deep South Crane Blizzard Series title in 2025.  Butcher won three Blizzard races in 2025, but was relegated to sixth in both showings.  A lot of people would like to have that type of an off weekend. 

The Spencer Davis Train: Friday night saw Spencer Davis charge from the back of the pack after a flat tire almost cost him his night.  Davis posted a third-place run. Saturday was not as kind, and Davis finished eighth.  Overall, Davis had a solid points weekend that left him second in the season standings as they chase the championship into July. 

The Craig Rebound: On Friday night Matt Craig left Five Flags Speedway wondering what happened.  His stranglehold on Five Flags slipped, and after back-to-back runs in the top 10 at the Snowball Derby, he finished the first two Blizzard races outside the top 10.  Craig rebounded on Saturday to finish fourth after starting fifth.  A big pickup before rolling to Nashville.  Craig currently sits third in the series standings.  

Running Well for Atwell: It should come as no surprise to see Michael Atwell running well at Five Flags Speedway.  After running 11th in the 2025 Snowball Derby, Atwell returned for a solid seventh-place finish on Friday night.  Saturday did not go as well, but he still managed a 12th-place finish.  We hope to see him in September for the Blizzard finale.   

On to Nashville: The ASA Southern Super Series will get a few weeks off before heading to the Music City for a 100-lap contest.  The July 11th race will be the first of two at Nashville this season, with the All American 400 being the second on November 8th.
