Butcher Eager for Five Flags Return

The summer months can be tough for a race team. The heat builds, and the endless search for speed seems never-ending.  However, for Cole Butcher and his Donnie Wilson Motorsports team, the time is perfect as they just hit a peak heading back to one of their best tracks.

Butcher will return to Five Flags Speedway for the Tibbetts Lumber 100 on Friday Night,

June 27th, seeking to be the first driver to win three Deep South Crane Blizzard Series races in a row since Bubba Pollard in 2013 and 2014.  Butcher is fresh off a big win at Slinger Super Speedway on the ASA STARS National Tour.

“We're really happy every time we go to Five Flags, " said the Canadian driver who now lives in North Carolina.  “We feel like we've been pretty good the last couple of races, and we just look forward to carrying the momentum.”

Butcher struggled at Montgomery Motor Speedway a few weeks back in the most recent ASA Southern Super Series race. That came on the heels of some rough showings on paper for the team that had led every single race before Montgomery,

“We were never really good at Montgomery,” explained Butcher. “My expectations going into Montgomery weren't super high. As far as Newport and Hickory, we just suffered axle problems. We probably would have swept that weekend if everything had gone correctly, but unfortunately, we had some bad luck.”

Butcher has gelled and excelled with his combination at Wilson Motorsports. Veteran Crew Chief Bond Suss has countless laps in short-track racing, and Car Chief Will Bradford has helped keep Butcher at the top of the leaderboard all season.

“It’s not just those guys, it’s Dennis, Bond, all the guys on the team. You start to become family because you are working together so much.”

The Tibbetts Lumber 100 will be the third leg of the Deep South Crane Blizzard Series.  Racing will begin at a new time, 7:30 pm CT, at Five Flags, as the Modifieds of Mayhem tour will join the full card of racing.
