Five Flags Championship Night Post-Race Notes

Matt Craig earned his fifth career ASA Southern Super Series win Saturday night at Five Flags Speedway.  For Craig, it was his first Super Late Model win at Five Flags, as he was previously 0 for 24 before pulling into victory lane in the seasonal finale for the Blizzard Series. The track’s Blizzard Series runs in conjunction with the ASA Southern Super Series. Craig now has four Late Model wins, having won three Pro Late Model events at Five Flags in the past.  

Stephen Nasse clinched the Deep South Crane Blizzard Series title after he posted a seventh-place finish. Nasse won the second and third rounds to build a sizable points lead, earning his first Blizzard Series title.  Nasse is the first Floridian to win the Blizzard title since Johanna Long did it back in 2010.  

Spencer Davis made the most of his weekend by setting fast time for the first time this season in the Blizzard Series finale, which is a combination race with the Southern Super Series. It was the second-career Engine Builders Pole Award for Davis after he won the honor at Mobile in 2025.  Davis then chased Matt Craig all night to post his third runner-up finish of the season. Davis has an average finish of 4.89, and he’s completed all the laps and posted top-10s in all Southern Super Series events in 2026.  He leads the series standings heading to the points finale at the World Crown 300 at Cordele Motor Speedway on October 24th. 

Jake Finch had one of the best weekends of his career after he finished second in the Pro Late Model race to win the track’s Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series title.  This marks the second consecutive season that the Florida driver has won the honor.  The last Florida driver to win back-to-back track championships was Donald Long in 2001 and 2002.  

In the Harvick Cup action, Keelan Harvick raced by his dad in the late stages to record yet another finish over his dad.  Keelan holds a margin of 12-6 in the 18 races they have run together.  The 2025 Snowflake 125 winner was making his first starts at Five Flags in the Super Late Model at the age of 14.  For the elder Harvick, it was his best run at the track as he was in the top five most of the night before fading to ninth. 

Another Five Flags Speedway rookie was Luke Yarbrough, who did very well and rose to sixth in the final laps of the event.  A former Pro Late Model winner would be a lovely addition to the 2027 Southern Super Series driver roster; we hope to see that pan out for a full season. 

We are happy to report that Dustin Smith is ok after a hard hit in the Super Late Model race.  Smith had just finished on the podium in the Pro Late Model race before a flat tire sent him into the wall.  Smith reported on his Facebook that the wreck will sideline him for a few races; we wish him a speedy recovery. 

A fourth-place finish for Bubba Pollard is nothing special at Five Flags Speedway in a Blizzard Series race.  However, this time Pollard rolled out a new car, and judging from the batting averages over the last few years, this new mount performed better than previous maiden voyage attempts.  Maybe Pollard failing to win a Blizzard Series race this season will set him up for success in December. 

The opening Deep South Crane Blizzard Series race in 2027 will be a special one.  After Saturday there have been 99 Blizzard Series races and 2027 will kick off with the 100th running of the Super Late Model Series events.  They have long been a five- or four-race series for Super Late Models leading up to the Snowball Derby.
