Post Race Notes: Clyde Hart Memorial

Writer: Elgin TraylorElgin Traylor

The highly competitive Clyde Hart Memorial saw a total of 21 cars on the lead lap at the end of 200 laps.  That’s the most in the ASA STARS National Tour series history.  The previous record for cars on the lead lap was 17 at Milwaukee in 2023.

The race featured 11 lead changes among eight different drivers with Ty Majeski leading the most laps with 68.

Not many people can say they had Cory Hall finishing on the podium on their Bingo card in the Clyde Hart Memorial.  After Hall won one of the World Series Super Late Model events leading up to the 200 he became aware of it by several teams.  He backed it up with a finish behind Gavan Boschele and William Sawalich.

Once again Stephen Nasse landed the hard charger honors as he came from 31st to finish 5th.  Nasse had struggled on practice and time trials and worked his way forward to get near the top 10 in the final 50 laps.

Christopher Bell made the most of his day at the track at the Clyde Hart Memorial.  After having no practice Bell timed in slow in qualifying.  He made his way to the front three times and got nabbed for three separate pitting too soon penalties.  When the dust settled Bell finished sixth.

We talked about how the rookie battle will be tight with the ASA Southern Super Series. Already in race two we have rookie Gavan Boschele winning his first race.  Geroge Philips rebounded from not making the first race to post a fourth-place finish.

It wasn’t a win for Gabe Sommers, but there was some redemption for him after he failed to qualify for the Clyde Hart Memorial 200 in 2024.  This year he started second and raced among the leaders all night and finished seventh.

Cole Butcher led the race and was a key factor until he ran out of fuel.  He was able to get back on the lead lap and finish 11th which could be very noteworthy for the season long point standings.

Tough luck for the Anthony Campi Racing machines of Colby Howard and Carson Brown.  Both had chances to win the race, but Brown ran out of fuel and Howard was sent to the rear after tangling with race leader Ty Majeski.

The next ASA STARS National Tour race will again be a combination event with the ASA Southern Super Series at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on March 23rd.  The Sunshine State 200 will be a part of a three-day weekend with the ARCA East Series and local divisions. The Vores Compact Touring Series will also be in action on Saturday night.
