Post Race Notes: Hickory and Newport

An exciting doubleheader at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) and Newport Speedway (TN) helped produce two more first-time winners this season to bring our total to three in the ASA Southern Super Series.  So far this season, there have been five different winners in eight races.

With his pole at Newport on Saturday, Carson Brown became the first driver to win a second pole in 2025.  After the Hickory race, Colby Howard made it six pole winners in seven races, with one event starting by the rule book due to weather.

While Cole Butcher didn’t win either race, he did push his lap leader total up the chart and extended his consecutive-race led streak to 10.  Each time he extends that streak, it's a new record

The win by Colby Howard from the pole was the first for the series since Casey Roderick did it at Five Flags last year.  It’s only the second time it’s happened in the last three seasons.

So far, there have been 1412 laps run in the 2025 season, with a whole lot more to come.

We are a little over halfway in the battle for the ASA Southern Super Series Rookie of the Year.  While Gavan Boschele sits second in the points, the margin back to Carson Brown is only 37 points.  Boschele has won a race, but Brown has led in four different events and is still seeking that first win.

The race at Newport marked the 15th different race track that the ASA Southern Super Series has run at.

It’s hard to look in the record books and not find Bubba Pollard’s name attached to any stat.  Well, now he has a new one going as he’s finished all eight races this year in the top 10.  The record is 14, held by NASCAR driver Daniel Hemric, who was the inaugural champion in 2013.

Another interesting note is that in the eight races we have had this season, there have been eight different drivers to finish in the second position. Only Colby Howard and Cole Butcher have finished second and won races this season.

The ASA Southern Super Series will be back at it in a few weeks at Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL) on June 7th.  The lone stop for the series at the flat half-mile is the annual Rumble by the River 125. This will be the 18th career event at the facility.
