It was a perfect night for Matt Craig who led the final practice round, set fast time for the Rumble by the River 125 at Montgomery, and then drew the one pill for the starting lineup. The night didn’t end there as Craig led all 125 laps to score the win giving the North Carolina driver back-to-back wins at Montgomery.
The Engine Builder Pole Award for Matt Craig was his ninth career fast-time honor in his career in the ASA Southern Super Series. Craig is the only driver to have multiple pole awards in each of the last two seasons.
The lap leader streak came to an end for Cole Butcher who had previously led the most laps in 10 races. He still has led the most laps on the season with 673. He has already set the record for most laps led in a season and could be the first to lead 1000 laps.
Defending ASA Southern Super Series Champion Casey Roderick was on hand at Montgomery Motor Speedway racing in the Show Me The Money Pro Late Model division. Roderick won the event before the ASA Southern Super Series main event.
For Stephen Nasse 2025 is still a quest for that first win of the season. He knows he’s getting closer with back-to-back second-place finishes in the ASA Southern Super Series. Nasse has 18 career second-place runs in the Southern Super Series, which is the most in series history.
The win by Craig runs the streak to five winners in the last five races this season. There have been six different winners in nine races this season. The series has averaged nearly 7 and a half different winners since it started in 2013.
Bubba Pollard has had a good season with a pair of wins, but his steady eddy performance has landed him eight-straight top-10 finishes and a recent fourth at Montgomery has propelled him to the points lead with only four points-paying races to go.
Colby Howard followed up his win at Hickory and sixth at Newport with a podium run at Montgomery as he ended up third. That’s now seven straight top-10 runs for the Anthony Campi Racing driver.
Augie Grill scored his first top-five in the ASA Southern Super Series since the 2022 race at Montgomery. Grill was a regular on the series for many seasons and is still near the top five all-time in top-five and top-10 finishes.
The ASA Southern Super Series will be back in action on Friday, June 27th at Five Flags Speedway as a combination with the track’s Blizzard Series. The Tibbetts Lumber 100 will also be race number three in the Deep South Cranes Blizzard Series.
