(Newton, NC) Former NASCAR Cup Series Champion and 1983 ASA National Series Champion, Rusty Wallace, has been named the Grand Marshal for the ASA STARS National Tour “Tar Heel 250” at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Wallace, who won 7 times during his ASA career, moved to NASCAR in 1984 and was named Rookie of the Year. In 1989, he won the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. Wallace won 55 races in his Cup career and was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2013.
The ASA STARS National Tour “Tar Heel 250” is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, May 22-23 at Hickory Motor Speedway. The event will serve as race #3 of the ASA Stars National Tour season. The Tar Heel 250 will be co-sanctioned by the ASA Southern Super Series.
The mid-week return of the ASA STARS National Tour will take place just prior to Charlotte Motor Speedway’s huge Memorial Day Weekend NASCAR events.
Hauler parking, tech inspection, and practice are scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, with practice, Go Fas Pole Qualifying, and the 250-lap STARS main event set for Thursday, May 23.

Founded by Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent, The ASA STARS National Tour for pavement super-late model stock cars debuted in March 2023 for Super Late Model racing in America.
The ASA STARS National Tour is a ten-race championship series, offering a $100,000 point fund. The tour will visit ten different race tracks in 7 states in 2024, with the season beginning in February during Florida Speedweeks, and concluding in early November at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Track Enterprises (TE) is a racing Promotions Company based in Illinois, which owns and operates the ASA STARS National Tour.
