The final three point races in the 2023 ASA Southern Super Series will be contested over the next several weeks. It all starts when the series hits Watermelon Capital Speedway at Crisp County Motorsport Park for the Georgia Summer Nationals on August 19th. The 125-lap contest will be the final stop in the series outside of the Florida Panhandle.
“We are excited to head over to the Peach State for the Georgia Summer Nationals,” said Southern Super Series General Manager, Tim Bryant. “A fast slick race track in the Georgia heat always produces great racing and excitement for the fans.”
The points race is tight heading into the Georgia Summer Nationals as Giovanni Ruggiero leads Matt Craig by a slim three point margin after the most recent race in Pensacola, Florida. Jett Noland sits third in points just eight markers ahead of Michael Hinde and 19 ahead of Bubba Pollard.
“I’m glad I don’t have to place any bets on who will be our champion because that could be tough to call,” added Bryant. “You have Ruggiero and Craig just three points apart. That could change with each pass on the race track. I truly think it will go down to the wire and the last race.”
Statistically speaking the Southern Super Series championship has been decided by less than 20 points a total of five times including each of the past three years. Hunter Robbins won the title in 2022 by only four points, the second-smallest margin in history.
After the Summer Nationals, the series will shift back to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader that will decide the Southern Super Series championship as well as the track championship at Five Flags Speedway. The Friday race is a make-up from part of the July doubleheader that was rained out.
Both races will be 100-lap events as the finale is normally longer, but with the doubleheader in play, the distance was set at 100 laps. Local classes at Five Flags will run each night, with the Crown Stocks and Modified of Mayhem returning to make up their events from that rainout weekend. Crown Stocks will run Friday with Modifieds on Saturday.
The next ASA Southern Super Series race will be on Saturday, August 19th as the series heads to Watermelon Capital Speedway at Crisp Motorsports Park (GA). The Georgia Summer Nationals will be a 125-lap race for the Southeast Super Late Model Series. Local divisions will be racing including the track Pro Late Models.
