Three Battles on the Line at Five Flags Next Week

ree

The season is winding down, and the points are about to be tallied for the final time.  We are about to see who can claim the title as the 2025 ASA Southern Super Series Champion. Five Flags Speedway, in Pensacola, Florida, is the backdrop for the next-to-the-last points race of the season next Saturday night, on September 27th.

At the same time, the track’s Super Late Model Series, the Deep South Cranes Blizzard Series title will be decided on the final night.  We will crown the one champion, and we will have a good idea who will have the control heading to the final Southern Super Series race at New Smyrna Speedway.

First off, Bubba Pollard leads Cole Butcher by 12 points with two races to go.  Pollard, the 2014 series champion, has four wins this season and has recently reclaimed the lead in the standings.  Butcher was the early-season rabbit as he also racked up four wins.  The 12 markers between the two could come down to just a few positions on the track or qualifying.

Behind the front two sit Matt Craig and Colby Howard, who each have one win and sit tied at 46 points back.  Neither is mathematically eliminated, but they would need some help this week to set up a push for the title in the series finale.

While Butcher looks to make up ground, he might be at the best track to do so.  This year, Butcher leads the Deep South Crane Blizzard Series after having won the first three races.  Butcher goes for the championship and the series sweep, which would be a first in series history.

Butcher’s margin is 26 points over Stephen Nasse, which is not safe by any means, as Nasse has been in the top five during all three races.  A year ago, Nasse lost the Blizzard title on the final night after what seemed to be a safe lead. Don’t sleep on Nasse, who has been in the top five nine times in his last 10 starts at Five Flags.

Matt Craig is 27 points back, and Jake Finch is 33 points back as the Blizzard title will likely go down to the final laps.

Behind the top two points positions are important for the top 10, as drivers could be eligible for a provisional starting spot at the 58th Annual Snowball Derby in December. Eleven points separate drivers from eighth to 13th in the Deep South Crane Blizzard Series.

Also on the racing card that night will be the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series finale.  The 100-lap contest will decide the Pro Late Model Track Champion among Jake Finch, Seth Christensen, and Dustin Smith.  Drivers who finish in the top 10 will also have a chance at provisional spots at the Allen Turner Snowflake 125 in December, the night before the Snowball Derby.
