With gas prices hitting the red like the thermometer gauge in Summer time, the opportunities to save race teams money is in high demand. Some calculated planning has led to visibility of the summer schedule to look more like twins around each corner. The ASA STARS National Tour and the ASA Southern Super Series will join forces for a double dip in May once again before both host their own in June. A weather issue in January helped the Southern Super Series and Track Enterprises to lock in a third double for late summer.
It all gets kicked off with a double feature week in the state of North Carolina. The ASA Southern Super Series will join with ASA STARS National Tour in hosting events at the Hickory Motor Speedway on May 21st and then at Tri-County Speedway on May 23rd. The Tar Heel 250 will be up first at Hickory, as the both series return for the fourth-straight season. Then after an off day from competition, the series will head to Tri-County Speedway for the first ASA STARS National Tour event, the Carolina 250, at the multi-grooved track. Both events are being promoted by Track Enterprises.
There will be plenty of prize money on the line in this North Carolina extravaganza, along with a host of ASA STARS contingency awards, sweetened even more with the Southern Super Series Best Average Finish Award, yielding yet another $1,000 to one consistent driver.
A $5,000 bonus will be on the line each night in North Carolina if they can win the race with a Race Car Seat from Joie of Seating. Company owner Randy LaJoie could be cutting two big checks if his clients can top the field in the 250 lappers.
The chips will be double downed again at Five Flags Speedway in June when the ASA Southern Super Series, along with the Deep South Crane Blizzard Series host a pair of 100-lap events, paying $10,000 each. The Summer Weekend Get-a-Way will feature the Tibbetts Lumber Company 100 on Friday, June 12th. The next night the series will return to the track for the Cook Out 100 with a full field of support classes each night.
There will be a $5,000 bonus on the line to a driver who can win both races at Five Flags, making for a possible $25,000 to win on the weekend.
While it’s not a part of the Southern Super Series, the ASA STARS National Tour will keep with the double-up theme in June as well. The series will have races at Slinger Super Speedway on Sunday, June 21st and at Madison International Speedway on Tuesday, June 23rd.
The dog days of summer will continue with the ASA Southern Super Series in Georgia for a special weekend at Cordele Motor Speedway. The SpeedFest event from January will be made up on Friday, July 31st. The next day the ASA Southern Super Series will have a points event as both races are part of the Superfest series at the track that feature power up start money for the World Crown 300 in October by virtue of starting the events.
In addition to the double-down events, the ASA Southern Super Series will be in Nashville for a single event on Saturday, July 11th. The series always has a stop in the Music City before the All American 400 weekend in November.
