Dustin Smith is Eager for Southern Super Series Stop at Hometown Track

When you live just minutes from the next ASA Southern Super Series event, you tend to be a little excited.  When you have won the last five Pro Late Model races at the track, it just adds to the confidence as Dustin Smith is set for the Battle on the Bayou at Mobile International Speedway. 

“We are super excited for the series to be headed to my home track,” said Dustin Smith.  “I always feel like I have a bit of an advantage when we run there.  We've been fast all year, just not a lot of luck on our side.  

Smith led laps in the first race of the season at Five Flags in the Sunshine State 200.  He was on the pole at Montgomery and led 50 laps before finishing in the top 10.  He was then a season-high fifth at Five Flags following Montgomery. 

“Greg Janes has turned our program around,” added Smith. “Maybe we can pull it off if we keep that same speed and get some luck.” 

Smith has support from SA Recycling, Johnny's RV and Smith Scrap and Salvage. They have helped keep the 33 ride on track this season. Smith is seventh in points, and a few solid runs could have him challenging for a top five position in the final standings. 

Mobile has been one of the most competitive tracks in the last few seasons with 12 lead changes in the last two events on the ultra-fast half-mile track.  

Spencer Davis enters the race as the points leader, holding a 45-point margin over fellow Georgia driver Bubba Pollard, who won the two most recent ASA Southern Super Series events at Mobile. Matt Craig is third in points just one point behind Pollard.  

Rotating optional practice will take place on Friday, September 4th for the Super Late Models and local divisions.  Saturday, September 5th is race day for the Battle on the Bayou as the ASA Southern Super Series will battle in the Crane Works 100, presented by The Mobile Sports Authority..  The full card of racing will feature Pure Stock, Vintage, Outlaws, and Crown Stock.
