CORDELE READY TO WELCOME SUPER LATE MODEL STARS SATURDAY

One week after competing at Five Flags Speedway (FL) in the Summer Sizzler 75, the Southern Super Series heads north to Crisp Motorsports Park for the Georgia Summer Nationals. Ben Sumner, promoter at Crisp Motorsports Park, joined Speed51’s “The Bullring” on Monday to preview the event.

Sumner is thrilled to have the Southern Super Series visit the Cordele, Georgia facility for the sixth year. It’s an event that has gained fan interest each year for Late Model fans in the Peach State.

“We’re really excited about it. It’s going to be a great show. I always look forward to working with Tim [Bryant] and Nicholas [Rogers] and everyone with the Southern Super Series.

“This event has grown quite a bit and we usually have a good turnout. It gets a lot of excitement, a lot of hype in the community.”

Part of that excitement stems from being one of just two chances each year to see the Super Late Models at Watermelon Capital Speedway, which also plays host to CRA SpeedFest each January.

“Having the Super Late Models coming back to the speedway, we have them a couple of times a year and we look forward to having the drivers come to the track. They seem to enjoy coming to the speedway, and they give fans an opportunity to see the Super Late Models.”

The event will also draw several big names as the sixth round of the 2020 Southern Super Series season. Several of those drivers are fan favorites from Georgia, including the current Southern Super Series points leader, Bubba Pollard.

Pollard has won the last three Southern Super Series events, with a pair of wins at Five Flags Speedway as well as a victory at Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL). Pollard will carry that Southern Super Series winning streak into his home state on Saturday.

“We’ve got a great list of drivers. Dawson Fletcher, Jake Garcia coming off a big win this weekend, Bubba Pollard will be looking to double down in the next town for the $5,000 bonus. That could make it a $10,000 payday.”
