Notes: Unpacking the Second Stop at Cordele this Season

It was a busy day on Saturday at the Georgia Summer Nationals 125. We took a look back at some of the stories within the field of the most recent ASA Southern Super Series race.

It was a stout field of former winners at Crisp Motorsports Park (GA) for qualifying. However right at the end it was the young hot shoe Gio Ruggerio who captured his first fast time award of his career with the ASA Southern Super Series. The fast lap was worth $500 as he bested Jake Garcia and Matt Craig. Ruggerio ended up third in the final race rundown after 125 laps to extend his points lead.

It was a solid night for Stephen Nasse who led laps and finished fourth on the grid to post his fourth-straight top 10 finish. During this run he’s logged a pair of top five runs among those finishes. He even stated on his social media after the race that they are getting closer to notching that first win of the year in the series. Nasse led a total of 39 laps and has now led 1000 laps in his Southern Super Series career.

It’s hard to believe that Michael Hinde logged his first top five of the year this past weekend at Crisp Motorsports Park (GA). Hinde has led laps in each of the last two races and is building confidence down the stretch. A year ago they posted eight top 10 finishes, and a pair of top fives, and we would have likely seen more the same this year had the Southern Super Series not seen so many rainouts in 2023. Now it's seems as if they are on the right track.

Jake Finch started the 2023 ASA Southern Super Series year off with a bang and a runner up finish at New Smyrna Speedway (FL). Finch has been in and out of the Super Late Model car, but has seen solid results in his NASCAR efforts. Earlier this year he won at Dover in the ARCA Menards East Series. It hadn’t been until last Saturday night when he returned to that form with a second-place finish at Crisp Motorsports Park. Keep an eye on them at Five Flags.

Colin Allman is in an effort to lobby for several races to be held at Crisp Motorsports Park (GA) next season. So far this season he has posted a seventh-place run at SpeedFest and a sixth-place run in the most recent events. We hope to see him more in ASA Southern Super Series events.

It’s always nice to see fresh faces in the series and Florida rookie Cody Krucker took a seventh-place finish in his first ASA Southern Super Series event. Krucher stayed on the lead lap and posted a solid run. We hope to see the former 417 Speedway regular more often.
